What is Mumps?
Mumps is a viral infection caused by the mumps virus, which primarily affects the salivary glands. The most noticeable symptom is the swelling of the parotid glands, which are located near the ears. Mumps can be contagious and is spread through respiratory droplets or saliva. The infection can also affect other organs like the testes, ovaries, and pancreas in more severe cases. While mumps is usually self-limiting, it can cause complications if not managed properly.
