What is Whooping Cough?
Whooping cough, also called pertussis, is a highly contagious bacterial infection that affects the respiratory tract. It starts like a common cold but gradually leads to severe coughing fits followed by a “whooping” sound during breathing. It mainly affects infants and young children, but adults can also be infected. The condition can cause serious complications, especially if left untreated. Early detection and treatment can reduce its severity and spread. Vaccination is the best method of prevention.
