What is Chikungunya?
Chikungunya is a viral disease transmitted through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes. It is not typically fatal but causes intense joint pain, high fever, fatigue, and rash. The symptoms appear within 3–7 days of the mosquito bite and can last for weeks. Joint pain may persist for months in some cases. Chikungunya primarily occurs in tropical and subtropical regions but can spread anywhere mosquitoes thrive. Prompt diagnosis and symptomatic treatment are essential to reduce discomfort and promote recovery.
